QUAD CONTROL STATION - BASS XPO 2006: THE LOW DECIBEL THEORY

6 years have passed since the last Quad Control Station's "Sound Barrier". "Bass Xpo 2006: The Low Decibel Theory" was originally scheduled for release in the Summer of 2006. However due to many pushed back dates it was shelved, until now. Unlike the first Bass Xpo (not the 1994 cassette version, but the first version on CD in 2001) It's a big departure from the Techno-Bass sound and it journeys into more of an experimental sound. There have been various talks about a new QCS album in the future, until then, enjoy this album here.

ROYAL ENTRY - "MIND OF A SOLDIER" [EP]

HE IS BACK!!!!! "Mind Of A Soldier" takes off like a musical motion picture, painting a vivid picture of what goes on in Royal Entry's mind. This new EP covers everything that true Hip Hop is missing in 8 songs (11 if you count the 3 hidden tracks). After the intro, the album pulls off into overdrive on "Back On My Grind" and "I'm Still a Soldier". Producer Ki of NC goes in on a verse on "The Melody" and "Just Another Day". On "Facing The Change" Entry's verses blend perfectly with producer Vincent Price's rich, East Coast sound and "Rare Breed" is packing enough hard punches that would make these "Lil'/Big" rappers of today do some research on what real lyricism is. It's been a long time coming for the full-length version of "Carolina", but the wait was worth it. "Mind Of A Soldier" contains 3 bonus tracks entitled "Questions", "Revenge of the Rhyme Spitter" and "The One" featuring the legendary Funk/R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire.

Tracklisting:

  1. Mind Of A Soldier Intro
  2. Back On My Grind
  3. I'm Still A Soldier
  4. The Melody (feat, Ki')
  5. Just Another Day (feat. Ki' & The Kid Acee)
  6. Facing The Change
  7. Rare Breed
  8. Carolina
Hidden Tracks:
  • Questions
  • Revenge of the Rhyme Spitter

COSMO - BACK TO WHAT I STARTED

Cosmo is back and on fire with the new album "Back To What I Started". This time out, Cosmo sounds even more confident on the 15 tracks here (excluding the skits). Noteworthy tracks include: "Dreaming" (Originally from the album "My Life, My Hood"), "Alabama", "Punch Line", "Getting Crazy", "Momma Always Told Me" and "Timeless". Overall the album is a classic. As the streets would say... This is the sh*t!

DANEJA MENTALE - JUDGEMENT DAY

In 1994 Daneja returned with "Judgement Day" with more darker lyrics than the ones on "Where Tha F*** Am I?". Most of the subject matter on this set were based on suicide, depression, paranoria and anger. This sound would be a part of Daneja's musical persona until his next album "Akshunz N Wordz" would be released a year later. Unlike albums like "The Common Ground Experience", "Truth & Consequences and "Any Questionz"; "Judgement Day was filled with violence and was loosely based on Daneja's real-life fight with depression (This would fully be explained 11 years later on "Depression" from the double album "Dark Waters). Lighter songs such as "I'm Tha Daneja" and "Check" balanced the album, preventing it from becoming a full hardcore record. There's a little social commentary sprinkled here as well to round it off.

SWIFT - NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENT [single]

This underground hit was a result of bad timing for a recording session in 1998. Swift recorded this single as a fill-in session. Daneja Mentale was unable to record due a dental appointment which was scheduled earlier on the same day. However he was able to produce the track, but couldn't record any vocal. Swift was called in and recorded the classic song within a hour. There was little detail to whether Swift would place it on a full album release of keep it as a promo. So they both decided to promote it on Amazon.com. "Negative Environment" became an instant internet smash, shooting up to #2 on the Hip Hop charts. This song also sent a hint to his fans of his next musical move; Christian Rap. Since 1998, Swift has become more focused on family, Christianity and recently became a part the Georgia law enforcement. The question of whether Swift is still making music is unknown. His debut "Metamorphosis" was his first and last album on Def For Life Records. "Negative Environment" was also placed on the Soul Mafia Family's compilation "The Coming" in 2005.

DANEJA MENTALE - WHERE THA F*** AM I?

For those who think "Any Questionz" was Daneja Mentale's debut, guess again. In 1993 Daneja (previously known as D-Lyrical) decided to go by a new stage name and develop a darker sound. Enter "Where Tha F*** Am I?", an album of re-invention of many sorts. The post-golden age production was more layered (just as any Hip Hop album during the early 90's). The lyrics became harsher due to a brief beef with The Black Assassin Kartel; a group that Daneja was once a member. The album contained the infamous B.A.K. diss "Lost In Ya Lyrikz" and "Changed Identification", which explained the change from Daneja's former stage name. Other tracks such as "Good Ol' Dayz" and "Goin' Schizo" display the variety of changes on this (cassette) [note: Where Tha F*** Am I?" was never released on a compact disc].

DANEJA MENTALE - REAL HIP HOP: THE BEST OF DANEJA MENTALE

Even though Daneja Mentale has been recording music since 1988 and his first CD release came out in 1997; "Real Hip Hop: The Best of Daneja Mentale" focuses on the highlights from 2005 through 2010. Daneja chose not to add any songs from 1997's "Any Questionz?", 1999's "Truth & Consequences", and 2003's "Elements of Life" due to his dislike of the tracks' quality and performance. Throughout the years his recordings took on topics from Hip Hop culture to social commentary. Added to this compilation are bonus tracks: "Baby (Underground Remix)" and two unreleased tracks "On The Mic" and "Police Brutality (And They Call It America)" which were recorded during the "Listen Closely" sessions. With the new album coming soon, this will serve the underground fans a blue plate of hits until its arrival.
